Meaning.
y Communication is the transfer of information from

one person to another person. It is a way of reaching others by transmitting ideas,facts,thoughts,feelings,and values.

y Sender is an person with ideas,intentions,information

and a purpose for communicating. y He has something with a meaning to communicate.

Encoding
y It involves translating the sendor s ideas into a

systematic set of symbols or gestures.

Channel or medium
y The channel is carrier of message. y It is the link that connects the source and the receiver. y face-to-face communication,telephone

calls,meetings,or other written reports.

Receiver
y The one who receives the message. y There may be one or more receivers. y Communication is not completed if the message does

not reach the receiver.

Decoding
y Decoding is the process by which the receiver

interprets the message and translates it into meaningful information. y Decoding is a two-step process:y (a)the receiver must first perceive the message; y (b)the receiver must than interpret it.

Communication noise
y Factors that disturb or distort the intended

message.Includes following factors(a)Factors which hinder the development of a clear thought. (b)Defects in channel. (c)Faulty decoding due to wrong meaning of words and symbols.

Feedback
y A feedback provides a link or channel for the

communicator to know the receiver s response.


y In face-to-face communication,feedback comes

through facial expression of the receivor.
