The prepared commercial soap and liquid detergent have had a pH level greater than 7, so we can classify them as a base. Because soap is a polar substance it will dissolve if mixed in water because both are polar mixture. The presence of sodium chloride is the reason why soap is a polar substance. But soap also has a non polar part; non polar part of the soap makes the dirt to dissolve. We can say that the polarity of a substance is directly related to its solubility and to its cleansing ability.
