The first successful measurement

of human memory, was accomplished by Herman Ebbinghaus in 1885. In order to measure memory, Ebbinghaus objectified it by asking What does a memory allow us to do? and then measured products of our memory. Hermann Ebbinghaus Ebbinghaus described his (1850-1909) approach in a slim monograph titled Uber das Gedachtnis (translated from the German as On Memory).
