The term Naga people (Burmese: Naka, Hindi: ????

) refers to a conglomeration of many tribes inhabiting the North Eastern part of India and north-western Burma. The tribes have similar cultures and traditions, and form the majority ethnic gr oup in the Indian state of Nagaland. Some of the prominent Naga tribes are Angam i, Ao, Chakhesang, Chang, Khiamniungan, Konyak, Liangmai, Lotha, Mao (Memai), Ma ram, Pochury, Phom, Poumai, Rengma, Rongmei, Sangtam, Sema (Sumi), Tangkhul (Wun g), Yimchunger, Zeme, Zeliang etc. There are 15 officially recognized tribes in the Nagaland state of India. The ot her Naga tribes can be found in the contiguous adjoining states of Manipur, Assa m, Arunachal Pradesh and across the border in Burma. Some of these tribes are: K atcha, Liangmai, Mao (Memai), Anal, Maram, Nocte, Phom, Pochuri, Poumai, Rongmei , Tangkhul (Wung), Tangsa, Tutsa, Wancho and Zeme.
