QUASITURBINE ENGINE

GUIDED BY Prof. MOHD. IQBAL P PRESENTED BY ABHIN CHANDRAMOHAN M7A, 7302

BASICS
Rotor-and-housing design Rotor has four elements chained together Combustion chambers located between each element and the walls of the housing Two different ways to configure this design - with carriages - without carriages

SIMPLE QUASITURBINE
Rotor turns inside a oval-shaped housing Corners of the rotor seal against the inner periphery

TURBINE WITH CARRIAGE

Housing is an oval cavity with four ports * Port for spark plugs * Port with removable plug * Intake port * Exhaust port Blades has a filler tip and traction slots
Cont >>

A pivot forms the end of blades Pivot joins the blades and carriages Carriage is free to rotate around the same pivot Wheels enable the rotor to roll smoothly Reduce pressure at the point of contact

WORKING
Strokes of an Otto cycle are arranged sequentially around a near oval Compression & expansion due to rotor motion and housing design

Cont >>

Internal volume variations do not follow the sinusoidal engine movements Photodetonation Rotor face rocks back and forth at a constant distance from engine centre Produces only pure tangential rotational forces

HOW DOES IT TURN ?

Force vector pressurization due to Pressurizing done either by fuel combustion, or by external pressure fluids. Rotor experiences a net rotational force as the pressure vectors are off center

APPLICATIONS
Vehicles Military applications Public utilities

ADVANTAGES
Simplicity and small size Zero vibration Faster acceleration without a flywheel Higher torque at lower rpm Oil free operation Less Noise Fewer moving parts for less wear and tear
Cont >>

It increases the fuel efficiency It can run on different kinds of fuel It can also accommodate hydrogen as a fuel source Complete flexibility to operate

DISADVANTAGES
Exposure to heat causes leakage Engine is still in its infancy Not used in any real world application Still in its prototype phase

CONCLUSION
Permits photo-detonation Unsolved problem: Thermal and photonic ignition control Relatively simple technology Chemically clean
