C H AP T E R 1

WHEN DO WE USE THIS?

Every day for almost everything
Quick. . .think of three arguments you made this very morning

You live in a democracy

Think about your rights
Freedom of speech = responsibility of speech?

Political parties Watching or reading the news On a jury

The process of a seating is called the voir dire

VWA DEAR
Prosecution and defense will ask you questions
To find bias To find strengths in the individual To (lets be honest) find a person who agrees with them whether they are right or not

Jury selection consultants help with the process

Dont pick a straight-edger in a drunk driving case Those who are against consultants say that true justice is not reached when they are used

Can we remove bias from the process?

Empathy and sympathy

BIAS IS BAD
Objectivity is key
What does that even mean?

What are they saying in their arguments? It doesnt matter who the arguer is, its what they are saying
