PAPER G Pritchetts Pond, Hinton Road, Carisbrooke - Draft

Report on the site meeting on 1st September 2011 with Cllr David Whittaker, Newport Parish Council, Claire Hector, Natural Enterprise, Ray Harrington-Vail and Mark Russell of The Footprint Trust (FT). A discussion was held as we walked around the site.

The following actions were suggested

1. That the ponds margins would benefit from more diverse planting of native plants, such as yellow iris, water mint and purple loosestrife at the rear of the pond. 2. That areas of the pond have shallow scrapes dug using handtools so as to hold small pools of water during the drier months 3. That the natural wood revetments be trimmed and made safe 4. That the landrainage pipe outlet should be cleared of debris 5. That the willow trees growing in the pond be coppiced annually, so as to prevent water loss from the pond 6. That the benches be treated with a suitable oil or repainted on an annual basis 7. That the pond area be regularly inspected for any problems, such as litter, flytipping, unsafe trees, monitoring of planting etc 8. To involve the Green Gym conservation group in care of pond 9. To find a local person to act as a Pond Warden for the pond 10. That in about next two years time an interpretive sign be placed at the pond, explaining its history and ecology

Proposed Schedule of Works The Footprint Trust is pleased to be able to propose the following works, subject to the approval of Newport Parish Council.
