.The people living there wre farmers.They planted rice and tapped the coconut palm to make sugar. The young men were very hard working.They too tapped the coconut palms to make a sugar.in beginning,it was just a small business.Soon,however,through all their hard work,they managed to obtain a lot of sap from the coconut palms. They tried to think of a way to turn the coconut sap into palm sugar.Finally,one of them suggested that they cook it in a large cauldron.Another suggested that the large pot be placed on a stove builtin the ground called a sabak.They began making a sabak.tey dug a hole for placing the firewood to cook the coconut sap. In the end, all the villagers began making their own sabak.Then whenever they wanted to hold a feast,They would also cook the rice and curry using a sabak. People started calling the area Sabak bernam,from sabak and enam meaning `six in honour of the six young men.Over time, it came to be known as Sabak Bernam.
