ABSTRACT

This case study used qualitative method to explore the practises of principals visibility and school discipline of a secondary school in Alor Gajah, Melaka. The purpose of this case study is to discover the conducts of principals visibility and its relation to school discipline. A principal and a teacher were selected as respondents for this study. The mrthod used was semi-structure interview, observation and the related document analysus. All the data was analyzed using the ATLASTI software. Results show that the Principal practises a high visibility to the school community. Management by walkabout and classroom walkthrough were found to be the method done to exhibit principals visibility. The main purpose of principals visibility is to develop the feeling of the principals presence amongst the school community especially teachers and student, to obtain precise information as well as to control the discipline of the scool in general. The implication of this research is that principals should be aware of principals visibility and develop visibility practise skill amongst the school comumunity. Leadership Training Centres should also emphasise this conduct of principals visibility.
