Current Events Assignment

Due Date
Current events are due at the end of every week regardless of whether you are reminded.

Article
Article choice must be a minimum of 400 words (this does not include small words like a, the, and, etc) Articles must be about a biological science such as ecology, medicine, health, zoology, technology in biology, etc Articles must be from a recognized scientific or news source. Source can be from the newspaper, magazines, or scientific websites. Articles must be no more than 3 months old. A copy of the article or magazine must be included. A summary of the article must be included. The summary must be 200 words long (this does not include small words like a and the. Extra sentences that are not part of the summary, but are there to add to the number of words, will not be counted. (Dont fluff your summary with nonsense) The summary must be handwritten, not typed. Include a full bibliography that includes the title, author, source of the article, date of publication, etc. Use the MLA format. If you use an online article, make sure it includes the complete URL when printed. The bibliography must be handwritten and placed below the summary. Bibliographies that are typed or at the end of the article will not count.

Presentation
Every six weeks, each student will present one article to the class. Names to present will be drawn randomly. If the student does not have the article that week, he/she will receive a zero for the presentation. Presentations should be thorough and understandable. Be prepared to answer questions. Students will turn in an article every week. Each current event is worth 15 points and the presentation is worth 10 points. This adds up to a 100-point assignment that will be recorded in the Evaluate/Create Assessment category (worth 50% of your grade). Current event grades will not be entered into the average until the end of the six weeks. Written reports with articles: Oral presentation of article: Total: 15 points each (6 total) 10 points 100 points (for each 6 weeks)

Grading
