Are you in control? Imagine yourself walking on the street and you have no control on your legs!

Or imagine yourself speaking in an important meeting and you have no control on your tongue. What will happen in you do not have control on your senses? Obviously it will be a catostrophy. The same is true with respect to our mind and body as they relate to each other. Let us take a comparison of a chariot drawn by five horses moving on a road. The road represents the choices and the countless objects that are available in the world. If there is no control on the horses, the chariot will go over all the objects hither and thither. The five horses represent our five senses through which we relate to the external world by our perception and understanding. These five horses have to be controlled. The reins that are holding the five horses represent the mind. If there is no reins, then the horses will run amuck. So is the case if our mind does not control our senses. Our mind should decide where the eyes should look and what the ears should hear. Who is holding the reins in a chariot? It is the charioteer. The charioteer should know in which direction the horses should move. In the human system, the charioteer is the higher intellect or buddhi. The buddhi gives instruction to the mind as to what is good and what is not good. The chariot is the human body. If the charioteer is not in control, he cannot control the reins. If the reins are not controlled, the horses will not be controlled. If the horses are not controlled, the chariot will be lost. In the same way, our mind, buddhi and our body are related to each other.
