William Wilberforce was a British politician, evangelist and a philanthropist.

Evangelists are people who preach the good news about Jesus Christ. William was born in Hull, United Kingdom. HIs father passed away when William was still 9 years old. William was sent to Saint John's College in Cambridge, and then he made the decision to be elected to the Parliament. William became a Member of Parliament in the year 1780. Pitt, Wilberforce's best friend became Prime Minister in Decemer 1783 and Wilberforce became his supporter. William Wilberforce began the movement to abolish the slave trade in 1788. In January 1790, he succeeded in gaining aproval for a Parliamentary select committee to consider the slave trade abolishion and to examine the evidence which Wilberforce had. April 1791, Wilberforce introduced the first Parliamentary Bill to abolish the slave trade but it was easily defeated by 163 to 88 votes. After the failure, he ccarried a motion fore gradual abolishion by 238 to 85 votes; but in the House of Lords the discussion was posponed until the following session. Notwithstanding his unremitting labours in educating public opinion and annual motions in the House of Commons. It was not until 1807, the year following Pitt's death that the fist great step towards the abolition of slave trading was accomplished! When the anti-slavery society was formed in the year 1823, William Wilberforce and Thomas Clarkson became vice-presidents. Before their aim towards the next step of slave trade abolishion was succeeded, Wilberforce retired because of his heath in the year 1825. The Emancipation Bill was not passed until August 1833, a month after the death of William. He died in London and was buried close to Pitt and other partners. He married Barbara Ann. They had 6 children, William, Barbara, Elizabeth, Robert Isaac, Samuel and Henry William.
