BRAZIL IN THE EYES OF THE OTHER: RESEARCH PROPOSAL.

1. INTRODUCTION

This report is to show the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul English II students research proposal, research that is required by the professor as a part of the class assessment. The research background has to be a predetermined one, being the way people from other countries see Brazil. Students should base their work on a topic above the background theme. As for the authors of this article, it was decided that the topic will be Brazilian music, analyzing the foreigners knowledge and opinions about it. 2. METODOLOGY The analysis will be based on a corpus to be produced and researched. From now on, the students will work to get these items: Interviews with foreigners about Brazilian music; Interviews with Brazilians about the same music; News reports and articles talking about the Brazilian music. sight

After collecting the material, the students will analyze it and give their about it, considering all the corpus involved. 2.1. ABOUT THE INTERVIEW QUESTIONNAIRES

The interview questionnaires will bring the Brazilian music theme and treat it according to the interviewed person; natives and foreigners have different questionnaires. 2.1.1. THE FOREIGNER QUESTIONS

2.2. NEWS REPORTS AND ARTICLES The news reports and articles will be found in foreigners and natives newspapers and magazines.

3. ABOUT THE RESEARCH ASSUMPTION The research will identify the thoughts of the natives about the music of their own culture and contrast them with the knowledge of foreigners over the same music, showing how the Brazilian musical culture really is and how foreigners think it is.
