Pro/ENGINEER is parametric, integrated 3D CAD/CAM software used by manufacturers for mechanical engineering, design and manufacturing purposes.

It was created by Dr. Samuel P. Geisberg in the mid-1980s; Pro/ENGINEER was the industry's first successful rule-based constraint 3D CAD modeling system. This software is used by companies whose product strategy is family based or platform driven, where a prescriptive design strategy is fundamental to the success of the design process by embedding engineering constraints and relationships to quickly optimize the design. These companies also use Pro/ENGINEER to create a complete 3D digital model of products. The models consist of 2 and 3D solid model data which are also used in finite element analysis, prototyping, tooling and CNC manufacturing. This software enables users to make changes in the design at any time during the product development process and automatically update drawings. This capability enables concurrent engineering design, analysis and manufacturing engineers to work in parallel. The pay scale for Pro/ENGINEER varies according to profession. The averages salary for draftsmen was $51,200 per year. Those who earned hourly wages earned an average of $24.62 per hour. Salaries ranged from $31,660 to $75,080 per year. On the other hand, mechanical engineers who use Pro/E software to design engineering schematics for parts and products, have an average salary of $78,160 per year. Those who earned hourly wages earned an average of $39.65 per hour. Salaries ranged from $50,550 to $119,480 per year. Companies that use Pro/ENGINEER include: Automotive, Aerospace & Defense, Airlines, Industrial Equipment, Medical Devices, Consumer Products, Electronics & High Tech, Footwear & Apparel and the Retail industry.
