The tourism industry generally overuses water resources for hotels, swimming pools, golf courses and personal use of water by tourists. Solid waste and littering:

In mountain areas, trekking tourists generate a great deal of waste. Tourists on expedition leave behind their garbage, oxygen cylinders and even camping equipment.

Often called eco-tourism and sustainable

tourism but more accurately described as "any activity or facility operating in an environmentally friendly way". A lodge with composting toilets, gray water system, and solar powered lighting is probably "green". Before you stay in a hotel check if it recycles or practices energy saving methods. Better still, why not camp?
