the first part of the film follows the travels of dasarath joglekar (patekar), an
author from hyderabad, all the way to new delhi, where he is to receive a literary
award for his recent work.

on the way, he meets a filmmaker who turns out to be an ardent fan of his writing.
their conversations take the author back to his earlier book janaz and how he used
fact and fiction to create lajwanti (rekha), the protagonist. and all of a sudden,
he come across lajwanti in real life.

in the second half, joglekar mulls over his next book and begins to draw
inspiration for his characters from people around him, like wife smita (deepti
naval).
