2010 1/4 SCALE TRACTOR DESIGN PROJECT

PROJECT SCOPE Create an innovative and effective quarter -scale tractor design that harnesses the power and torque of a specified stock engine to maximize performance. Project completion is fully designed and working quarter scale tractor model ready to be handed over to 2010 -2011 senior design group at the end of spring semester DESIGN FEATURES DESIGN IMPROVEMENTS FROM 2008 TRACTOR Compact Frame Design Drivetrain Redesigned for Max Torque and Pulling Performance Transaxle Designed for Pulling Rack & Pinion Steering for Enhanced Maneuverability Tractor Aesthetics DRIVETRAIN Engine to Transaxle Power Transmission Provides Broadest Combination Possibilities Easier to implement limited slip and locking rear ends Simple gas and go operation Centrifugal Clutch with 12 tooth sprocket on crankshaft and 22 toothsprocket on input shaft of transaxle mechanically interfaced using chain Achieves optimal maximum velocity of 10 mph for pulling performance Clutch engagement at 1700 rpm KT35 Transaxle has shown proven reliability in J.D. and Cub Cadet 6x6 Utility vehicles with integrated braking FRAME Compact design for enhanced maneuverability and weight requirements Mild steel square tubing due to low cost and Mechanica stress analysis Flux-Core Arc Welding used in joining frame Ultrasonic Testing results indicated no weld defects on frame STEERING Rack & Pinion Steering Selected for Design Low cost, simple installation Greatest turning radius compared to other steering mechanisms evaluated Same steering used on many John Deere lawn tractors REAREND Utilized 2008 Tractor rear shafts with hub assemblies Custom machined couplings Bearings used for further shaft support

DESIGN REQUIREMENTS Utilize one or more 16hp Briggs & Stratton Engine(s) along with no more than 4 uncut Titan 26x12 Power Tires Follow 2010 ASABE International Quarter Scale Tractor Student Design Rules & Regulations Main objective is to achieve maximum pulling performance, but tractor should also excel in maneuverability, serviceability, safety, ergonomics, and manufacturing
