MARKET PERFORMANCE NOKIA UAE Nokia leads the global market share for mobile phones and smartphones

s but its shares are dwindling due to economic recession and stiff competition from other manufacturers in the segment. As opposed to 36% market share for mobile phones in the second quarter of 2010, the shares declined to 34% in the third quarter. The aggressive marketing of the Google Android and the Microsofts Windows 7 platform for smartphones has affected the smartphones market shares for Nokia that are down from 38% in second quarter to 36% in third quarter of 2010 [GulfNews, 2010]. In the UAE market,

smartphones are the stars with a high market share of 15%, whereas mobile the handsets conventional with rich

features are the cash cows, generating most of the sales with 25% market share from both low and middle income groups. Nokia netbooks and internet tablets, powered by Intel Atom processors are relatively new entrants in the UAE market and therefore are the question marks with low market share of 5%, as the models are highly priced in comparison to their counterparts from regular manufacturers. Low-end basic feature mobiles have somewhat become a dog product for Nokia, with both low and middle income consumer group preferring to spend on stylish and trendy mobile handsets and as a result have declining figures of 3% market shares.
