Unlike most, if not all other constitutional offices, the Illinois Constitution sets the eligibility requirements of candidates for the Office of States Attorney as: 1) a citizen of the United States, and 2) a licensed attorney at-law of this State. There is simply no residency requirement. As an aside, it seems that due to population discrepancies amongst the counties, some counties may not have an adequate selection of interested and qualified candidates for this important position with varied duties. In short, being a life-long resident of a small town 10 miles north of the Pike County border does not disqualify my candidacy as your States Attorney. I will stand on my record of legal service and service to my community, and openly invite a comparison of this record to any candidate for this office. Some folks have even mentioned it as an advantage, bringing a level of needed IMPARTIALITY to this important office.
