ASME B18.15 Forged Eye Bolts


Section 9 Sets guide lines for inspecting Forged Eyebolts. Eyebolts should be free from an defects which might affect its functionality. Eyebolts should be visually inspected on a routine basis. Criteria for removal from service and destruction include such things as; bent or distorted eye or shank, nicks and gouges, obvious wear, worn and /or distorted threads and or crack. It is important to note that cracks generally can not be seen with the naked eye and require special testing such as but not limited to a magnetic particle inspection or a liquid penetrant inspection.

ASME B30.26 Rigging Hardware


Section 26-2.8 Sets guide lines for inspecting, repairing and removing turnbuckles, eyebolts, eye nuts and swivel hoist rings. Frequent inspections shall be made daily by the end user and periodic inspection shall be made by a designated person with frequency being based on severity of use, not to exceed 12 month intervals. Criteria for removal from service include such things as; missing or illegible identification, heat damage, deep gouges, distortion, cracks, 10% reduction of parent material at an point, damaged threads, unauthorized welding on item, and or item does not freely rotate or pivot if it is supposed to. Repairs shall be made by the hardware manufacture or equivalent entity. Replacement parts shall meet hardware manufactures original specifications.
