Spa Second Half Fightback

Droitwich played Ashby in their first home game of the season which was a friendly. Ashby started the stronger side as their new look team gelled whilst Droitwich new look Mens 4s began disjointedly. Ashby utilised their greater strength and understanding to fashion several chances, which Cameran did well to save. Although he was beaten from the top of the circle by a well placed shot mid way through the first half. The rest of the half saw Droitwich play some good team hockey fashioning chances down both wings. But score remained 1-0 to Ashby at half time. Ashby started the 2nd half quickly producing counterattacking hockey. Ashby gained a penalty corner from one such attack, and scored with a low shot into the bottom left hand corner. Droitwich responded brilliantly, attacking Ashby defence from the wings and using the ball quickly. This pressure finally told with interchange down the right, resulting in Francis scoring a rebound, after Ashby keeper saved the initial effort. Droitwich 2nd goal came from King quick thinking from a free hit inside the 23, playing a one two before firing in a cross for Plumpton to convert. This was an excellent team result showing the necessary grit, determination and skill to succeed in this league. Next is Droitwich first league game away at Old Silhillians October 1st 2011.
