102-102 12 September 2011 The Light Side of Suicide In the story A Case of Assisted Suicide by Jack Kevorkian he talks about the way he started helping people take their own lives. In helping someone decide their own fate, he believes he is noble. During the story he is trying to make others understand how he was able to justify killing someone and that it was the right thing to do. While he never actually killed anyone directly he was in all aspects responsible for their deaths, but he did not see it that way. When he states I decided to accept her as the first candidatea qualified, justifiable candidate if not ideal and well aware of the vulnerability to criticism of picayune and overly emotional critics (436) he acts as if wanted to do it but he just needed a good reason. It is clear he made sure everything seemed legal and that it was truly what Janet wanted, by having her sign contracts and videotaping her interview with him before anything was followed through. He also shows this by stating I acted openly, ethically, legally, with complete and uncompromising honesty, and even more important I remained in a personal attendance during the second most meaningful medical event in a patients earthly existence. (438) He truly believes he was in the right.
