Similarities to Christs Ascension and His Second Coming.

Acts 1:9 says that a cloud received Him out of their sight. Revelation 1:7 says, Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him Acts 1:12 says that Jesus ascended from the Mount called Olivet. And were told in Zechariah 14:4 that when He returns in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, Which faces Jerusalem on the east. And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two, From east to west, Making a very large valley; Half of the mountain shall move toward the north And half of it toward the south.

Up, Up And Away! Acts 1:9-11

The Ascension of Christ:

Provided a demonstration of Jesus final return to Heaven. Displayed the manner of His return at the end of the age Was the visible expression of His heavenly promotion.

The apostles hearts were pounding, and their eyes were wide as saucers as God powerfully underscored His Sons final words to His church! The truth conveyed through these events should resound in the inner chambers of every believers heart. R. Kent Hughes, Acts: The Church Afire

Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. 8 Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, The LORD mighty in battle. 9 Lift up your heads, O you gates! Lift up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. 10 Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, He is the King of glory. Selah Psalm 24:7-10

Jesus was taken up

Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. Verse 9

What is the Shekinah Glory of God? It is the visible representation of the pleasure and presence of God.

This was the same symbol that Moses had encountered on Sinai when God covered him with His hand so that Moses only saw the afterglow what some translations call His back. It was the same cloud that traveled before Israel by day (a pillar of fire by night). It was the cloud that Ezekiel saw depart over the eastern gate. It was the same presence that surrounded Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration when His face shone like the sun. (Matthew 17)

The two angels in Genesis 19:1 and 15 were called men in verses 5, 10, 12 and 16. The Lord and the two angels who appeared to Abraham in Genesis 18 were called three men in verse 2. The angel that appeared to the woman who was to become Sampsons mother in Judges 13:3 is called a man of God in verses 6 and 8 and the man in verse 10. The angel that appeared to Daniel in Daniel 10:5 is called a certain man, and in verse 18 another angel is said to have the appearance of a man.

The Angels Said

Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven." Verse 11

Two Angels Stood By

And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel. Verse 10

This means that Christ will come again in the same way that He went away. 1 Thess. 4:16 says that the Lord Himself will descend from Heaven.

How do we know that these two men were angels? We see this kind of language all throughout the Bible.

John 14:3, And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.
