Guidlines for submitting Pre-Lecture Questions.

** Updated Policy: (this update slightly changes what is stated in the original syllabus about Pre-Lecture questions). (a) You may submit your 3 REQUIRED pre-lecture questions for the 3% of the grade WHENEVER you would like to throughout the semester in accordance with guidelines below (b) You may submit, only 1 question per lecture. (c) Questions must be submitted to my email before midnight on the day before the lecture that they pertain to. Here is some advice on how to generate "good" pre-lecture questions to receive the points allotted for them: (1) Read the recommended lecture reading assignment prior to coming to the lecture (2) Identify relevant sample problems related to the reading assignment/lecture topic. (3) Come up with a "good" (non-trivial) question related to the upcoming lecture (reading, problems, or old notes) and submit it to me via email before midnight of the day before the lecture. (4) If you have more than one good question that you want me to consider prior to a lecture, then you are encouraged to share those questions with others and allow them to submit them. I will respond to your emails to let you know whether or not you have presented a "good"question. Below are examples of "BAD" questions: (i) Could you please work the sample problem number from Quiz 2 from Spring 2007? (instead you should ask about a specific point in solving the problem where you got stuck) (ii) What does the definition given at the bottom of page xxx have to do with "the price of tea in China"? (i.e., Don't let your questions stray away to much from the concepts as presented in the book. Thinking beyond what you read is encouraged, but always use good judgment about questions that are appropriate for in-class attention. As usual, you are always welcome to come to office hours for broader discussions) (iii) Please avoid simple "yes/no" questions.
