The Letter That Was Unconstitutionally Read
The Letter That Was Unconstitutionally Read
Earlier that day, Leoncio had an encounter with Terry but it turned out to be a bitter one. Terry saw him but did not bother to smile at all. Leoncio turns to Pepe for his opinions about this puppy love. Pepe: Whats wrong today? Leoncio: She didnt smile at me! She doesnt like me at all! Pepe: Why? What have you done? Leoncio: I sent her a letter, remember? Pepe: Yeah, I remember. But why should she stop smiling? She should smile some more. Leoncio: I dont know. Oh, Im so confused. Pepe: Thats silly. She must be angry about something else. Not this. Leoncio: But what have I done? Pepe: Maybe its something you havent done! Leoncio: Like what? Pepe: Maybe she wanted you to hold her hands Leoncio: What?! Pepe: or maybelike.kiss her. Leoncio: What?! Pepe: Maybe she wanted you to be more aggressive! Leoncio: Nonsense! Nice girls like her dont want aggressive boys and they certainly dont want to be kissed.that soon, anyway! Pepe: Oh yeah? Who told you that? Leoncio: No one. I just know it. Pepe: Hmmm.maybe you sort of offended her. Narrator: Just when Pepe and Leoncio were in the middle of their conversation, Sol suddenly came and sat in between them hoping to join what seemed to her a very interesting story. Little did they know, she was the answer they were looking for Sol: You were discussing something very interesting. What was it? Leoncio: Nothing.
Sol: Oh come on! Tell me! Pepe: How would you feel if you received a love letter? Sol: Love letter? Of course I would be excited! Pepe: Will you smile at the guy if you meet him accidentally? Sol: It depends. Leoncio: What do you mean it depends? Sol: If I like him, Id smile. Pepe: If not? Sol: Id look the other way around and frown or I could just stick out my tongue out at him. Leoncio: She doesnt like me at all! Sol: Who? Pepe: Terry Jaena Sol: Ahah! So its you! How romantic! Leoncio: She doesnt like me at all! Sol: How would you know? Pepe: She stopped smiling at him. Sol: But why? Leoncio: I dont know. (Sol is thinking) Sol: Who delivered your letter? Leoncio: I mailed it. Pepe: WE mailed it. (beaming) Sol: I see (Sol is thinking again) Sol: Where did you address the letter? Leoncio: Your school. Sol: What?! Oh no! Leoncio: Whats wrong?
Sol: I finally understand why she did that. Pepe: Why? Sol: Mother Principal must have called and investigated her at the office. Leoncio: What?! Pepe: Why?! Sol: Mother Principal opened the letter. Leoncio: Why would she do that? Sol: Regulation Lencio: But that is unconstitutional!!! Why should she investigate her? She did no crime. She should have called me! Sol: We have a school regulation. Leoncio: And just what regulation would that be? Sol: Any letter addressed to any student can be opened by Mother Principal. Leoncio: But that is against the Constitution of the Philippines! The Bill of Rights made that clear for everyone! Sol: Well, thats what our parents agreed to. (Pepe is not catching up that fast) Pepe: Why should Mother Principal investigate her? (Sol is kind of annoyed) Sol: High school girls arent supposed to fall in love yet. Pepe: Ridiculous! What about high school boys then? Can you really believe that? Sol: No but what can we do? We are under the care of our parents. Mother Principal must have reprimanded her and thought she encourages boys like you. Leoncio: Is that so bad? The witch should be happy boys fall in love with her girls. I mean, does she want each of you to end up an old maid just like her? Sol: She is not an old maid. Leoncio: What is she then, a teenager? Sol: Shes a nun.
Leoncio: Nuns or old maids. Theyre practically the same. (Pepe laughs a little) Mrs: Baldado: Sol, come inside the house. Its study time. Sol: Good night. See you tomorrow.
