Zachary Taylor Americas 12th President

Term history

Was nominated for President in 1848 by a political party called the Whigs. Became President in 1849 and died July 9, 1850. Whigs- supporters of supremacy of Congress over the presidency and favored a program of modernization and economic protectionism.

Political Ideology

Was a member of the whig political party. Established in 1834-1856, in reaction to Andrew Jackson. It only lasted about two decades and its candidates were Zachary Taylor and William Henry Harrison. He really had a diverse political view, he felt like he had strong nationalist views but favored the whigs political principles more than the nationalists.

Life & Education

Zachary Taylor was born in November 24, 1784 in Orange County, Virginia. His lived in poverty. Had an elementary education because he went straight into the military afterward. He fought and won many battles in the MexicanAmerican war and was considered a war hero. He made no historical impacts on the U.S as President due to his early death.

Place in History

He had a lot of fame from protecting Wisconsin, Minnesota, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Kansas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Florida, and Texas from Native American attacks. Fought battles in the Mexican American war. Died in the white house on July 9th . Taylor called his wife and told her not to cry, he said to her: "I have always done my duty, I am ready to die. My only regret is for the friends I leave behind me."

Fun facts

He had four daughters, 2 of them died within a year of birth, one as a teenager. Fought in the Mexican American war; won a battle against an army of 20,000 with her army being 6,000. When Taylor came home from the Fourth of July ceremony, he spent the whole day eating giant helpings of cherries, iced milk, and pickled cucumbers, all while suffering from a case of typhus fever. He became quite ill and died five days later on July 9, 1850. Hmmm
