A simple analytical procedure is presented that enables accurate prediction of the response of reinforced concrete plane frames to Thermal and Mechanical Loads. The thermal stresses induced in reinforced concrete structures are unlike most other mechanical stresses in that they tend to be self-relieving to some extent. Primary thermal stresses are induced in a section where a nonlinear thermal gradient exists. Continuity thermal stresses are of greater magnitude than primary thermal stresses and play the major role in causing structural distress.
