FUNDAMENTAL OPERATIONS WITH WHOLE NUMBERS AND DECIMALS

I.

ADDITION the process of finding the sum or total of two or mores addends. The answer of addition is called sum or total. Both associative and cumulative properties are applied o addition, which means that the arrangement of the addends does and the order of grouping dos not affect their sums. example: a. associative property of addition a + (b + C) = (a + b) + c 1 + (2 + 3) = (1 + 2) + 3 1+5 = 3+3 6 = 6 b. cumulative property of addition a+b=b+c 5 + 4 = 4 +5 9 =9

Addition methods: 1. Addition by grouping use when there I a long series of addends to add. It enables the possibility of having zero errors in computing example: Add 259 485 767.. 389 463 912 756 438 642 574 638 = ___________

2. Addition by tens (10s) group and add integers whose sum is 10. example: Add. 17 63 22 86 34 76 3. Addition by usual method the method of carrying out to the left column the numbers in excess of the units in the sum of the first column, the number in excess of tens in the sum of the second column and so on. example: Add the following: HTU 253 636 784 520 4. Addition of Decimals align the decimals points in column and follow the usual method of addition. example: Add the following: 6.2, 2.854, 2.974 6.2 2.854 2.974
