    I run magento connect manager to upload new theme it automitically puts the websit to maintenance mode.

    it creates a file named "maintenance.flag" in root directory. The index.php looks for this file and if this file is found, it redirects to 503.php, which says service temporarily unavailable. the best method is to delete that file to make websit running.
