meters CHAPTER 1 HANDLING AND INSTALLATION RECOMMENDATIONS HANDLING WARNING: — WHEN LIFTING ANY OF THE PUMPSCT COMPONENTS REFER a (2) TO THE ILLUSTRATIONS AT THE END OF THIS CHAPTER. ‘The pump should always be lifted using suitable eyebolts and a crane and slings, that suit tho weight of the pump. (Refer to General Arrangement Drawing for pump weights). Care must be taken not to score the paintwork or damage any component. spreader hars (not W.P.L. sunply) should he used if the slings interfere with any part of the pump or motor. INSPECTION wm 2) 8) All boxes/packing cases should be inspected for external signs of damage. Any damage or shorlages should be immediately reported to Weir Pumps Ltd. and the carrier. Check WPL Advice/Delivery Note is available, and that contents comply with the Delivery Note, if the equipment is not being installed in the immediate future, it should be stored under favourable conditions, as indicated in Section 3. STORAGE a (2) @ @ ‘When it is necessary to store a pump up to 3 months prior to installation, it should be placed in a dry location where it cannot be affected by moisture. Protective blanking plates, fitted before despatch from the factory, are not to be removed. Ensure that the bearings and couplings are properly protected against the ingress of sand, grit and other foreign matter. To preclude damage to bearings, it is essential that unit is stored in a vibration-free area, preferably on wood or resilient packing. To prevent rusting-in or seizing, lubricate the unit before storing (refer to Publication WPL 101M*, Recommended Lubricants for Machinery Manufactured by Weir Pumps Limited.). Turn the pumpset by hand at least once weekly. “Available on request. ‘Where electric motors are provided with anti-condensation heaters, these should be connected to a temporary supply and switched on throughout the storage period More thorough precautions are required if the pump is to be stored for an extended period of time (over 3 months). Refer to Weir Pumps Lid. for full information on long-term storage. (5) _All parts of the assembly must be cleaned before installation. All rust preventative must he removed from the suction and discharge flange faces, exposed shafting and all coupling surfaces. SITE PREPARATION (1) The pumpset must be positioned on a properly prepared foundation and secured in position, Ensure that the foundation is flat and clear of all dirt and debris. (2) Check holding down bolt hole pockets and concrete plinth/foundation, referring to the foundation drawing. (8) Using station vertical and horizontal datums supplied by civil contractoriclient mark off major centrelines onto the site foundation. in particular, note ‘handing’ arrangement ot pump suction and discharge branches to the respective motor terminal boxes in accordance with the general arrangement drawing, (4) All pipework must be correctly hung or supported to prevent undue stress or vibration being transmitted to the pump. See Section 6, for pipework installation procedures. (6) Set and level off packing plates of nominally 25 mm thickness on each side of the foundation bolt pockets ready to support the pump stool. The foundation plinth should be kept approximately 25 mm low to allow final levelling of pump stool. Note: Bofors laying down each packer, ensure that the foundation bace ie clean and flat. The level should be within 0.1 mm per 1000 mm, (6) _Using ste! straight edge and spirit level, check the preliminary height level of all packers relative to the previously marked centrelines and datum. (7) Where possible the pipework should be arranged so that the pump operates with positive suction. (8) The suction pipework should be adequately sized; it should be as direct as possible, apart from such provision as may be necessary for expansion, and free from bends and air pockets. (9) Ensure integrity of suction piping joints and valve stuffing boxes by leak testing the system. (Refer to Section 8). (10) Where the discharge pipework does not rise continuously, and air pockets can form, It is important to provide some form of air release vaive meses INSTALLATION Note: (1) Provided that the pumpset is set down accurately on a property routed foundation, as described in these instructions, no vibration dampening is considered necessary. (2). The installation af vertical dry pit pumpsets is governed by a number of variable factors. The general advice given here applies basically to all arrangements of vertical sets and should result in a satisfactory installation, WARNING: — WHEN INSTALLING THE PUMPSET REFER TO THE HANDLING 3) CAUTION: — (1) Normally, shafting is to be erected so that it is vertical (withi (2) (3) @) © ©) m™ ILLUSTRATIONS AT THE END OF THIS CHAPTER. (2) The screws securing the motor/shafting and pump/shafting companion flanges are to be tightened with a torque loading as quoted in the manufacturer's instructions. Position, align and level the plummer block bearing support girder(s) applicable Using the foundation bolt holes in the pump plinth as datum points, mark a centre point on the pump basement floor. The pump shaft centretine will coincide with this mark. Drop a plumbline from the centre point of the aperture in the motor foundation. ‘The plumb bob should coincide with the pump foundation centre point obtained in Step (3). Use the plumbiine also to mark the plummer block centreline on the shafling intermediate support girder(s) From the centre of the motor foundation measure horizontally outwards a known distance in two directions at 2 90° angle to points from which plumblines can be dropped to pump level. Those lines will enable a check to be made on the position of the pump after it has been located. Before positioning the pump, locate the foundation bolts in the pump feet, retaining them with the nuts. Lower the pump on to the packing pieces and check the accuracy ofits location by measuring from the two plumblines to the shaft centre. Insert packing shims of the appropriate size under the pump feet to level the pump at the correct height above the basement floor and achieve accurate alignment with the suction and delivery piping, Make the final pipework connections to the pump, then grout in the pump foundation bolts. When the grout has hardened, tighten the foundation bolts, (Grout using Armorex L2 or equivalent).
