MEANINGFUL OUTCOMES
SAIL provides an opportunity for students with any disability [ages 13-21] to pursue additional education and personal development concurrent with middle school or high school studies. Through interactive learning about: Self-Advocacy Disability Awareness Setting & Achieving Goals Brief History of the Disability Rights & Laws Personal Interests, Strengths, and Skills Social & Independent Living Skills Discovering & Engaging Support Systems Social & Recreational Opportunities Problem Solving Communication Skills Resources In Community
Students will be provided with the tools to become empowered to enable them to live more independent lives. Start Date: 10/18 SAILs existence is a collaborative effort with the main intent being that of facilitating an optimal transition to adult life. Students involved with SAIL will receive: Many hours of interactive instruction (to be held once a week for 9 weeks) Instruction from DAWNs Independent Living Transition Specialist, Helen Bradfield, a certified Teacher of the Handicapped, and part time assistants Training that will enable students to set a personal goal and take appropriate steps to achieve it An invitation to participate in a 4 hour social learning event in the community Participate in a celebratory ceremony to acknowledge the completion of the SAIL program ***50.00 registration fee (scholarships available
