2CTP Certification Program

A new set of skills is required to sell, install and support convergence technologies. IT professionals who sell, install, support and service the new communications server applications need new skills to stay competitive. TIA's Convergence Technologies Professional (CTP) certification was created to validate the industry-required skills necessary to fill in-demand convergence job roles. The CTP certification exam validates core knowledge of convergence industry standards and protocols, infrastructure, signaling, basic telephony, Voice over IP (VoIP), topology convergence, and the skills required to perform jobs related to these technologies. The CTP credential is attained by passing a high-stakes, computer-based proctored exam consisting of 65 questions. The CTP certification assists those who want to remain current or advance their career in the voice, data or convergence industries, including channel partner sales professionals, technical representatives, advanced technical engineers, and application sales engineers.

The Need for Convergence Certification

The convergence of three technologies voice, video and data into a single network is a major development in computer and communications technology. Companies need complete solutions and there is a shortage of personnel qualified to sell and support convergence products. Manufacturers and their channel partners all need a way to educate their employees and customers about convergence technologies. Industrycommon skills and applications of convergence technologies are vital to the success of sales professionals and support technicians. They need to know vendor-specific equipment and applications, as well as how these applications work with other software and equipment available in the marketplace. That is why vendor-neutral training and certification such as CTP is an essential foundation for vendor-specific training. Supporting the enterprise customer is one of the goals to achieving success in the communications industry. An educated industry from the manufacturer to the network service provider to the channel partner furthers the goal. In an effort to help the industry attain the goal, TIA offers several vendorneutral convergence technologies credentialing programs for all segments of the telecommunications industry to validate the industry-common terms and skills needed to apply and implement convergence solutions. CTP and Certified in Convergent Network Technologies (CCNT) fill the industry's need to conserve valuable training resources by offering industry-standards credentialing programs to reduce redundant training.

CTP Audience
The target audience for CTP certification is anyone interested in pursuing or advancing an information or communications technology career. CTP provides the skills and knowledge to prepare individuals for specific job roles within the convergence technologies industry. CTP prepares individuals for the following job roles: Technical sales and technical representatives Enterprise IT professionals that support voice and data applications Implementation and application sales professionals Sales engineers

Value of CTP certification

Obtaining an industry-recognized certification validates an individual's competence in a set of skills or a job role. Certification enhances an individual's career by demonstrating to employers and customers one's readiness to perform required job skills. TIA's CTP certification is a unique credential that helps to address the current shortage of professionals skilled in convergence technologies, by ensuring that individuals are proficient in the industry-established skills necessary for meeting industry needs. Individuals can pursue important new job opportunities and companies can differentiate themselves to customers by using only certified personnel to sell, install and support convergence technologies solutions.

CTP Program Competencies

Following are the CTP program competencies: Implement products and services in accordance with industry standards. Confirm compliance with current industry standards. Verify interoperability.

Individuals who complete the CTP exam and become CTP certified will have demonstrated core competency in data networking, telephony networking and convergence technology.

CTP Certification Exam

The CTP certification validates that an individual has the core knowledge and skills required by equipment manufacturers, their channel partners, and end users to sell and service convergence technologies. CTP shortens the path to vendor-specific certifications. For individuals, CTP certification is a gateway to sales and service careers in the convergence industry. For companies, CTP certification is a gateway to lower training costs and a convergence capable workforce.

CTP Certification Agreement form

All CTP exam candidates should complete and submit the CTP Certification Agreement form before taking the CTP exam. Candidates will need to sign this form before their CTP certificate can be processed. The CTP Certification Agreement is located at www.CTPcertified.com.

Exam Retake Policy

The following CTP Exam Retake Policy outlines the conditions under which a candidate may retake a CTP exam. A waiting period between retakes of a single certification exam maintains the security of the exam and strengthens the value of the CTP certification. Each CTP exam is defined by a unique exam ID (e.g., TT0-101). A retake is any subsequent sitting of an exam with the same CTP exam ID by the same candidate at any authorized testing center. If a candidate passes a CTP exam, the candidate will not be allowed to retake that CTP exam. If the CTP exam objectives change, the exam ID changes to reflect the new exam version. Candidates who have passed an exam may sit a newer version of the exam that may have the same title but a different ID number. If a candidate fails the CTP exam on his or her first attempt, a 24-hour waiting period is required between the first and second sittings of the CTP exam. Candidates are required to wait for a period of no fewer than thirty (30) calendar days from the date of the previous sitting before any third or subsequent sitting of the same CTP exam. The beta version of any CTP exam may be taken only once by a candidate, and will be graded as pass or fail. Exams administered in any ways that do not comply with the CTP Exam Retake Policy shall be considered invalid and ineligible for a refund. In the event that a candidate has violated this Exam Retake Policy, the candidate may be deemed ineligible to register for or schedule any CTP exam for a minimum period of twelve (12) months from the date of such determination. In addition, any candidate determined to have violated the CTP Exam Retake Policy may be subject to any or all of the following: Denial of a specific CTP certification for a period of twelve (12) months from the date of such determination Revocation of a specific CTP certification, if such certification had been previously granted to the candidate Revocation of all CTP certifications previously granted to the candidate Ineligibility to receive any CTP certification for a minimum of twelve (12) months from the date of such determination Any other appropriate actions, including legal remedies, deemed necessary or appropriate to enforce the CTP Exam Retake Policy
