Your fourth assignment is to reinterpret and illustrate a popular childrens story.


1.Select a childrens story. 2.Determine whether to illustrate the story using the characters mentioned or reinterpret the story to include contemporary characters or place the traditional characters within a contemporary context. You can be literal or symbolic. 3. Gather reference materials and draw your scene onto a scratchboard using a pencil. 4. Use a scratch tool to complete your drawing by scratching away the black surface to reveal the white gesso underneath.

In this assignment the way you choose to reinterpret the story is up to you, however, you should pay special attention to: Design/Composition
Did you make good use of the elements and principles of design to create a dramatic/interesting composition? There should be a focal point in this piece.

Drawing Issues: Value and Line


Is there a balance of black and white? Did you experiment with various types of lines? Did these lines create interesting and believable textures?

Craftsmanship
Is the work neat and carefully put together?

Overall Appearance
Does the work catch the viewers eye?
