Heres a quick how to explaining how you can restore your lovely Grub and Ubuntu desktop after

a Windows install. You need to do this step if youve installed Windows AFTER installing Ubuntu, Windows thinks its the only OS in the world and so replaces the master boot loader with its own overwriting grub. First of all youll want to load an Ubuntu Live CD/USB desktop. Once youre then open a terminal and type the following: Youll need to know the device name of your primary ubuntu partition, in this example Im assuming its /dev/sda5 mount /dev/sda5 /mnt mount --bind /proc /mnt/proc mount --bind /dev /mnt/dev mount --bind /sys /mnt/sys chroot /mnt update-grub2 grub-install /dev/sda Reboot and youre all set and should be presented with your grub menu (pictured).
