Prostate cancer is a malignant (cancerous) tumor (growth) that consists of cells from the prostate gland.

Generally, the tumor usually grows slowly and remains confined to the gland for many years. During this time, the tumor produces little or no symptoms or outward signs

PSA (Prostatic-Specific Antigen)

Immunoassay test underdevelopment By

Beckman Caulter

(2005)

The test called BPH-A (or BPSA), detects an isoform of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) that exists in abnormally high level in blood of men with enlargement of Prostate Gland.

PSA (Prostatic-Specific Antigen)

The rationale for the test is as follows: in its normal physiological pathway, PSA passes into the seminal plasma, where it promotes sperm motility by dissolving the seminal coagulum. When either BPH or prostate cancer exists, significant amounts of PSA leak from the prostate gland into the bloodstream. The leaked PSA can be found in the blood in a form bound to serum proteins or in an unbound form, also known as fPSA
