Intralink understands and controls Pro/E models and their interrelationships Files are stored in a custom Oracle database You cannot view stored files with File Manager

Why are Pro/E files so hard to manage?
Parametrics & interrelationships that make Pro/E powerful make file management difficult

Pro/E files contain associations among themselves

Three Pro/E file types
Part Contains 3D solid geometry data Assembly Contains data specifying names & positions of parts (no solid geometry) Drawing Contains data specifying models & dimensions for views plus notes etc

Opening an assembly or drawing file reads in all associated part files

Manual Pro/E file management

Errors occur when files get modified, moved, etc. without accounting for associated files A single part file usually must be saved in a number of different locations Keeping the database up to date is virtually impossible on a large program Deciding where to fetch data to work on is uncertain

How Intralink Works

Commonspace (CS)
All data is stored in Commonspace Located on server with daily backup Check-out Copy Commonspace files out into Workspace to work on them

Workspace (WS)
Workspace is a temporary data location created by I-link on your machine All Pro/E work is done in Workspace It's like the working directory Check-in Copy modified files back into Commonspace

Administration Manage users, folders, authorizations, Locate Quickly get what you need; easier than navigating Commonspace folders Preferences Set up default behavior and appearance Launch Pro/ENGINEER Start Pro/E from Intralink to work in a Workspace
