Industrial Relation

The term IR commonly denotes employeeemployer relations in both organized and unorganized sector of the economy. It is also known as Labour-Management Relations. Individual relationships of workers with their management are thus excluded from the scope of IR

Definition:
Dale Yoder whole field of relationships that exists because of the necessary collaboration of men and women in the employment process of an industry. Prof. Dunlop industrial societies necessarily create IR, defined as a complex of interrelations between workers, managers and Govt.. ILO IR deals with relationships between the state on the one hand, and the employers and employees organizations on the other and with the relationships among the occupational organizations themselves --- covers such areas as freedom of association, right to organize, right to fight collectively etc.

Objectives of I.R.
To safeguard and promote the interests of workmen. To reduce industrial conflicts. To lay down mechanism to minimize the damage potential, if a dispute should arise. To promote Industrial peace. To provide a proper role for all the players to the IR scenario. To resolve conflicts and to prevent them. To promote the welfare of the organization. To promote Industrial Democracy. To safeguard and develop the welfare of the society.
