Meditation is a special kind of concentration.

In ordinary concentration, the mind is focused on one particular subject, and there can be many divergent thoughts related to that particular subject. Here the subject is one, but thoughts are many and dissimilar. By the world meditation we mean dhyana or contemplation. It is a special type of concentration. In the first place, meditation is a fully conscious process, an exercise of the will. Secondly, meditation means concentration on a spiritual idea which presupposes that the aspirant is capable of rising above worldly ideas. And finally, meditation is done usually at a particular center of consciousness. It is clear that true meditation is a fairly advanced state, attained after long practice.

Concentration means strong efforts of mind, meditation is not a mind game; on the contrary going beyond to the mind, body and organism is meditation, just being a watcher, being aware of happenings within and without is a meditation. Contemplation is minds function, but dhyana is not, neither it is an exercise or a process, but being aware of all processes is a meditation. It is a very simple thing, not a difficult task; just flowing in present with awareness is a meditation.

Mind and intelligence are not physical deliberations; when I think and produce thought, dont think the mind becomes the thought. The mind has the power to think; it gives the notion of ideas, but there is no condensation taking place. By interacting with objects or thoughts, we dont become them.
