PROJECT NAME: National English Proficiency Program (NEPP) for Teachers in the High School and Elementary School Levels IMPLEMENTING AGENCY: DepED Technical Working Group of NEPP

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The NEPP is a nationwide project to answer the Presidents call to raise the quality of Philippine Basic Education by improving the English proficiency of our teachers, particularly those teaching Reading /English, Math and Science, so that ultimately, the competencies of their students will improve. It is envisioned that the NEPP will eventually be a SCHOOL-BASED ENGLISH MENTORING PROGRAM that will be institutionalized in the school and districts, in five years after the initial induction program with 5 components or phases have been implemented. The high school level targeted for 2003- 2007, while the elementary level is for 2006- 2011 in all of the 17 regions of the Philippines.

TRAINING OBJECTIVES:
By the end of a three-phased English training program the participants/mentors are expected to: 1. become lifelong learners who are proficient in the use of the language and who gain pleasure or fulfillment as communicators, readers, writers and viewers.

2.active inquirers experimenters, problem solvers, decision makers who are able to use the language as a means of giving insights into, and reflecting upon their own and others.

3.active mentors and collaborative creators of learning experiences rather than as dispensers of information and knowledge.
