**Reading At Home
Be sure to check out the back of the newsletter for information on the reading strategy we are currently working on, inferring. When you are reading with your child this week try asking them some inferring questions. When students infer they use their background knowledge plus information they get from the text to make gain a better understanding of the story.

**Vocabulary
Students have been working really hard on learning a new vocabulary word each week of the school year. Last Friday your child took a test over these words. Look for the results of this test to come home in your childs Friday Folder. Encourage your child to use these words at home and incorporate them into their everyday vocabulary. Have a great week!

What were Learning This Week...

Language Arts: This week we will begin to focus on the comprehension
strategy of making inferences. Students will be using their background knowledge along with clues from the text in order to make inferences. We will be doing a variety of modeled, shared, and independent reading assignments this week focusing on making inferences. During our word study time students will focus on learning about regular plurals. In writing students will continue working on drafting their personal narratives. We are working on adding sensory details into our writing.

Math: This week in math we will continue working on geometry. We will be learning about similar and congruent
figures, and translations as well as reviewing concepts that we have learned during this unit. I encourage students to bring their mini-book home that we have made in class to help them with their homework. We will also begin learning about perimeter this week.

Science/Social Studies: In social studies students will continue working on the Southeast region of the
United States. Students states and capitals test will be Friday, November 18th. Students will have to know all of the Northeast and Southeast states and capitals for this test.
