Description
Configuring Software Switch on the FortiGate unit.

Scope
Software Switch is used to form a simple bridge between two or more physical or wireless FortiGate interfaces. They are made up of "member" interfaces. There are some limitations; soft switch interfaces cannot be monitored by HA or used as HA heartbeat interfaces.

Solution
To add interfaces to a software switch group, no configuration settings can refer to those interfaces. This includes default routes, VLANs, inter VDOM links, and policies. Assumptions: The Software Switch Interface is to be named soft_switch. Its members are port1, external and DMZ. The CLI commands to configure a software switch interface called soft_switch with port1, external and DMZ interfaces are: config system switch-interface edit soft_switch set members port1 external dmz end For more information, see "config system switch-interface" in the FortiGate CLI Reference Guide (which can be obtained from http://docs.fortinet.com).
