Hebrews 4:12-13: The Word(s)

(Yesterdays note can be found at http://www.facebook.com/note.php? note_id=10150118926683554) Yesterday we began looking at Gods special rest. We left off receiving a call to diligence, and a warning against unbelief, both obvious and secret. According to MacDonald, the Israelites were not diligent in appropriating Gods promises by faith. As a result, they never reached Canaan. We should be warned by their example. And then Paul starts talking about the Word. Or should I say Words? 12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from Gods sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. (Hebrews 4:12-13) In verse 12 he mentions Gods holy written Word. it is living and active. The Greek word (energes) can also be translated effective. It is sharper than a two-edged sword; it cuts deep. It can divide the indivisible, soul and spirit, joints and marrow. The Word of God is so convicting it can cut through the most deceptive insincerity. It judges our deepest thoughts, feelings and attitudes. The Bible will cut within you and expose any unbelief, no matter how deeply hidden it may be. Not only does the written Word expose all within us, but the Living Lord (the Living Word) sees all. He sees all, and no unbelief or disobedience is hidden from His sight. God can and does discern genuine faith within us.

There is no room in the Christian life for unbelief. If we cherish our doubts, it will be fatal. This text shows us that God will discern any and all unbelief, but the good news is He will show us now before it is too late so we can surrender completely to Him and enter His rest. Lets give it all up to Him, so that when we are tested by the written and Living Word, we will be found blameless through Christ.
