Abstract

This paper proposes a MATLAB Simulink simulator for photovoltaic (PV) systems. The effect of irradiance and temperature on PV module is very crucial when computing the model parameters. Many modeling techniques were used but this approach enables the computation of model parameters at any irradiance and temperature point using the manufacturers data sheet. This approach has the ability to simultaneously compute all the model parameters at different irradiance and temperature. The accuracy of the simulator is verified by applying the model to four PV modules of different types (multi-crystalline, mono-crystalline, and thin-film) from various manufacturers. The performance of the model is tested using a single diode model with series resistance Rs. The proposed model was found to better and accurate results for any irradiance and temperature variations. The proposed work can be very useful for PV professionals who require a simple, fast and accurate PV simulator to design their systems.
