"...People would like to think that theres somebody up there who knows what hes doing. Since we dont participate, we dont control and we dont even think about questions of vital importance. We hope somebody is paying attention who has some competence. Lets hope the ship has a captain, in other words, since were not taking part in whats going on... It is an important feature of the igeological system to impose on people the feeling that they really are incompetent to deal with these complex and important issues. theyd better leave it to the captain. One device is to develop a star system, an array of figures who are media creations or creations of the academic propaganda establishment, whose deep insights we are supposed to admire and to whom we must happily and confidently assign the right to control our lives and to control international affairs." Noam Chomsky
I think that Noam Chomsky is right, because according to his statement, the mechanism oI language acquisition Iormulates Irom innate processes. This theory is evidenced by children who live in the same linguistic community without a plethora oI diIIerent experiences who arrive at comparable grammars. He claims that certain linguistic structures which children use so accurately must be already imprinted on the child`s mind. Chomsky believes that every child has a Language Acquisition Device` or LAD which encodes the major principles oI a language and its grammatical structures into the child`s brain. Children have then only to learn new vocabulary and apply the syntactic structures Irom the LAD to Iorm sentences. Chomsky points out that a child could not possibly learn a language through imitation alone because the language spoken around them is highly irregular adult`s speech is oIten broken up and even sometimes ungrammatical. Chomsky`s theory applies to all languages as they all contain nouns, verbs, consonants and vowels and children appear to be hard-wired` to acquire the grammar. Every language is extremely complex, oIten with subtle distinctions which even native speakers are unaware oI. However, all children, regardless oI their intellectual ability, become Iluent in their native language within Iive or six years. There is my oppinion, sorry Ior mistaken.
