• Planning: disappeared from shop floor

• Costs: came down by 45 % (processes)
• Operational work remained the same
• Tactical Management became obsolete
• Strategic management became involved

E-Commerce speelt een cruciale rol

3 Boeing Commercial Aircraft 787

Configuration
IMP:13,4/ 4,2= 3,3. Boeing has the power to multiply it’s own
investment of $4,2 billion by the factor 3,3 over the supply chain making
the investment costs for Boeing lower.
PM:100/35= 2,8. Partners are co-developing and co-producing partners
for approx. the same share [65%] as they invest.
TOC: $ 430.000.
Continuation
MS: of approx 70% on the Long haul point to point market with airbus
A350 in competition. Product range spin off.
BE: is envisaged within 400 ship sets corresponding with 3 years for
Boeing.

Conception
B787 is an “All Composite Aircraft” widely advanced to the competition.
Boeing subcontracted 8 main partners which develop there own IP.
Boeing has access to the IP of partners. Partner reciprocity: Boeing gets
entry to launching customers in Japan. Japanese Heavies get access to
aircraft design
4 ASML: Twinscan

Configuration
IMP: 100/36=2,78 on a total investment of Euro 1 billion.
PM: 100/5=20. ASML multiplies it’s production factor 20 times
over the supply chain consisting of 15 main partners. ASML
produces only 5% of the production value
TOC: Euro 500.000. (2.5 billion generated with 5000 empl)

Continuation
MS: 60% against Nikon and Cannon for the same type of
machines. Product range spin of.
BE: with 300 units within three years

Conception
ASML is sharing IP and innovation with Zeiss and 4 main
partners. Contractual arrangements about IP are made.
Partner reciprocity: ASML gets know how about optical
technologies, Zeiss gets access to semiconductor market,
wafer fabs.
5 KLM: Engine Water-wash

Some results:
Configuration
Cost limited : around 4 800 E per ac
Fuel Savings : around 0.5% or 150 000 E per ac per yr
done in cooperation with customer KLM and suppliers LM,
MCC, GE and Juniper

Continuation
No additional aircraft downtime if done during A-check
Less CO2 emission
Savings of millions per fleet (fuel efficiency)

Conception
Rough airfoil surface: Boundary layers are thick and airfoil
efficiency is reduced, increasing the work input required to
compress the flow
From idea to practice, from technological eureka to engine
operation
Case Senseo

Configuration
IMP: 100/50=2.
PM: 100/33= 3,3
TOC: tbr

Continuation
MS: initially started with 100 % as there was no competition in this
segment
BE: < 3 years

Conception
Café machine and café pads protected by IP shared on a 50/50 basis by
both parties Philips and SaraLee by a mutual cross over license.
Partner reciprocity:Philips gets market access to the café consumer
learning about consumable desire and demand SaraLee gets involved in
the café making technologies and markets.

Philips established About 30 co-development partnerships

Research case EMBRAER 190

Configuration
- IMP: 2,5
- Co innovative partners for wing design, Landing
gear etc
- EMBRAER invest approx. $ 800 million on a total
investment of about $ 2 billion

Continuation
Lean Enterprise secures EMBRAER affordable prices and
attractive cost of ownership
An alternative to Airbus and Boeing for inter regional
destinations and low cost carriers

Conception
Design, development, test and certification
Case Cisco Systems

Configuration
IMP: 100/50=2. Cisco Systems and Nokia are sharing
investments on an equal basis.
PM: It is envisaged the production will be outsourced
completely
TOC: $700.000.

Continuation
MS:in development
BE: in development

Conception
Cisco Systems and Nokia are integrating handheld
technology with internet protocol making use of the
“call manager software. Partners are sharing IP on a
50/50 basis.
Partner reciprocity: Cisco gets involved in the
consumer market, Nokia gets involved in the internet
and enterprise market.
