TRANSFORMING VILLAGE SHERARA AND NEARBY VILLAGES IN BIKANER DISTRICT THE INITIATIVES OF DR. N.M.

DUGAR
There is a mad rush towards city. In this mad rush, if a person moves from urban areas towards rural areas, he must be appreciated. He is not only running against tide, but is also taking a personal risk also. There is a society, which is guided by the mad rush of todays time and this society has its own set of expectations about success, right conduct and achievements and convincing this society is the most challenging task in any case. I wish to present here a note of thanks to Dr. N.M. Dugar for having spared himself for the development of his very own village Sherara. Most people forget their village after their achievements not even villages their own relatives also. But Dr. Dugar had decided that he would serve his village after retirement. He retired as PMO from Nagour Govt. Hospital. He had a personal home in Bikaner city itself, but he decided to get settled down in his village which certainly needed persons like him. His decision to move to the village has helped many villagers directly and indirectly. Everyday many villagers come to him for taking his guidance. Some seek his medical advice, some seek his personal advice, and some come just to have light

discussions. The villagers are proud of his achievements and now they are confident that Dr. Dugar is always available to them. This sense of confidence is itself a powerful remedy for all stresses and pains. Sherara is a small village 45 KM from Bikaner. It is surrounded by many small villages located nearby. This total area is called Runia Bara Bas as there are about 12 small villages in a cluster. Dr. Dugar is a popular name in every household. Dur to interest of Dr. Dugar, many other educated and learned persons also visit this village and interact with the villagers. All these create an environment of social awakening and awareness in the village. Dr. Dugar actively participates in all important village matters. He gives due respect to the local authorities and Sarpanch. The local Sarpanch also gives very high respect to Dr. Dugar and seeks his guidance. Had Dr. Dugar stayed in city areas, he would have minted money but the true joy of serving the home village is a unique accomplishment and Dr. Dugar is the true son of soil and wishes to serve the village a lot. He has modernized his farm house and his agricultural land. After his initiatives and due to his encouragements, other villagers have also modernized their farm houses and their farms. There is now lot of prosperity in the village due to modernization of the farming practices. Thus there is a chain of initiatives which have culminated in the increased prosperity of the village.

Dr. Dugar used to serve nearby hospitals also, which are located in nearby villages. Earlier he served a hospital in Kalu, a nearby village thus helping thousands of persons directly and indirectly. Dr. Dugar is a very religious person also. He frequently organizes Ratri Jagran and Bhajan Sandhya these are the moments for worship and for development of an excellent culture in the villages. On these occasions, the entire village join together in a very friendly and cordial environment and worship God. Thus there is no caste based discrimination and there is a cordial environment as a result of these initiatives. Dr. Dugar regularly organizes these kinds of events and thus fosters amity and brotherhood in the village. Dr. Dugar contributed substantially to the development of the temple of local deity which also enabled the villagers to join together in a common cause. Dr. Dugar has the habit of helping the poorest of the poor in the village. If he comes to know about economic hardships of any villager, he goes out of way to help the villager. He would help the villagers in terms of money or articles or other support. Thus he is able to serve his village with utmost devotion. He is not running an NGO, nor is he taking any government aid for village development but he is a living institution in a group of villages as on his own, he is taking all possible initiatives for the development of the villages. Dr. Dugar loves education and considers that education is very important for the development

of his village.. He occasionally visits the schools of his village and encourages the students there to study and progress in life. He would sometimes distribute pens to the students, sometimes he would distribute notebooks the basic purpose is only to motivate the students. Due to these initiatives, the village school has 100% result in class X and class XII and almost 80% students have been getting first division or more. This is a big achievement considering that the village students are comparatively deprived of in terms of resources and study aids. Now there are many students who wish to become a doctor (just like Dr. N.M. Dugar) and serve their village. Let us all taken inspirations from Dr. Dugar and if we commit to serve our mother village the villages will again become the true heaven. Visit the village Sherara personally to see the gigantic contribution of Dr. Dugar. Sherara is just 22 KM from Norangdesar which is on Bikaner Jaipur highway (NH 11) Submitted by : Dr. T.K.
