Barack Hussein Obama born on 4th August, 1961 is the 44th and the current president of united states. He is the first African American to hold the office. Obama previously served as United States Senator from Illinois from January 2005 untill he resigned from his victory in the 2008 presidential election. Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and is a graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School were he was the president of Harvard Law Review. He was a community organizer before earning his Law degree and he worked as civil rights attorney and taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School. He served three terms representing the 13th District in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004. Following an unsuccessful bid against the Democratic incumbent for a seat in the United States House of Representatives in 2000, Obama ran for United States Senate in 2004. Several events brought him to national attention during the campaign, including his victory in the March 2004 Democratic primary and his keynote address at the Democratic National Convention in July 2004. He won election to the U.S. Senate in Illinois in November 2004. His presidential campaign began in February 2007, and after a close campaign in the 2008 Democratic Party presidential primaries against Hillary Rodham Clinton, he won his party's nomination. Leadership Qualities
Integrity Integrity is the act of keeping to your personal morals or ethics. Malcom Friedberg wrote about who he thinks Barack Obama is and why he thought he should be president: .that's the man I want to run my country: the man who has the courage to do what's best for all of us, and not to compromise because it provides him with some short-term gain. Show me the man that will risk losing the election because he won't compromise his values, and I'll show you the man that deserves the right to be called the President of the United States of America. -from Barack Obamas Integrity by Malcolm Friedberg, posted Mar. 21. 2008

Respect President Obama, before he was even named the 2008 Democratic Candidate for President, supported diplomacy as the first measure to be taken in response to any suspicious activity. In particular, Obama supported the re-initiation of diplomatic action with Iran. He opposed the bill that would regard the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist group, thereby allowing the president to position troops in Iran, which could be interpreted as military action against the Iranians. This shows that the President respects all organizations, regardless of their history or relationships and that his first thought when approaching foreign organizations, is diplomacy.

Fairness The introductory paragraph to the Obama Administration's tax plan states: Barack Obamas tax plan delivers broad-based tax relief to middle class families and cuts taxes for small businesses and companies that create jobs in America, while restoring fairness to our tax code and returning to fiscal responsibility. Fairness is an especially important trait for any leader because a good leader must treat everyone with equality, regardless of race, gender or social status. For more information, refer to the Obama tax plan.

Citizenship Citizenship is the character of an individual viewed as a member of society or their behavior in terms of the duties, obligations, and functions of a citizen. President Obama demonstrated very eloquent citizenship when he worked as a community organizer in the south side of Chicago: In June 1985, Obama moved to Chicago, where he was hired as director of the Developing Communities Project (DCP), a church-based community organization originally comprising eight Catholic parishes in Greater Roseland (Roseland, West Pullman and Riverdale) on Chicago's far South Side. He worked there as a community organizer from June 1985 to May 1988. During his three years as the DCP's director, its staff grew from one to thirteen and its annual budget grew from $70,000 to $400,000. He helped set up a job training program, a college preparatory tutoring program, and a tenants' rights organization. Obama also worked as a consultant and instructor for a community organizing institute.

Caring In my opinion, one of the most difficult tasks that any world leader will face is balancing time with their two major obligations; the population that they are leading and their actual family. There's no hiding the strong bonds between the members of the Obama family; the family reserves time for a sit-down dinnertime every night. Barack Obama is certainly a family man; he's seen in public all of the time with his loving family. Additionally, Barack Obama is committed to creating universal health care in America. This shows that the health of the individual American is one of his top priorities.

Confidence With the 2009 inauguration, Mr.Obama inherited two wars, one of the worst economic disasters in American history, and a multi-trillion dollar debt. President Obama has displayed that he knows how to inspire confidence in people, and he will have to if the United States is going to make it out of these challenges intact. President Obama attacks the economic recession daily, creates new plans to counter the U.S. debt, and has already put his troop withdrawal and distribution plans into action. The American people must know that the government is working hard so that they can gain trust in the Federal government once again. Obama knows the true meaning of leadership: to encourage the American people to act for a common purpose because they want to. Here is a phrase that President Obama used in one of his recent speeches: "Starting today, we must pick ouselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin the work of remaking America"

Barack Obama, 2009 Inaugural Address He has certainly held true to his word on this quote. To help to alleviate the recession, he has spent more money in his first sixty days than in an entire term of any other president. Obama hasn't just talked about plans of rebuilding America, he has acted on them. Americans are gradually investing more and more trust in their government as each crisis is dealt with.

Mindful Decision Making A deliberate decision of Mr. Obama was to surround himself with people that don't neccessarily agree with his views. This way, the President will gain different perspectives on difficult issues. If his cabinet were to contain people that constantly agree with him, he could make purely 'Obama' choices all of the time, and the right decision might not always be made- nobody's perfect. Barack Obama has shown his decisiveness through the inummerable times he has taken action in just about the sixty days that he has spent in the White House.

Presidential Speech

Best use of His power of speech Thats why Im in this race. Not just to hold a office but to transform a nation. I want to win that next battle for justice and opportunity. I want to win that next battle-for better schools, for better jobs and health care for all.

I want us to take up the unfinished business of perfecting our union, and building a better America. And if you will join me in this improbable quest, if you feel destiny calling, and see as I see, a future of endless possibility stretching before us; if you sense, as I sense, that the time is now to shake off our slumber, and slough off our fear, and make good on the debt we owe past and future generations, then I'm ready to take up the cause, and march with you, and work with you. Together, starting today, let us finish the work that needs to be done, and usher in a new birth of freedom on this Earth.

To bring a change By ourself the change will not happen. Divided, we are bound to fail. Bt the life of a tall, gangly, self-made spring field lawyer tells us that a different future is possible. He tells us that there is power in words. He tells us that there is power in conviction. That beneath all the differences of race and religion, faith and station, we are one people. He tells us that there is power in hope. His fight for the eradication of the discrimination of black and white people This time we want to talk about shuttered mills that once provided a decent life for men and women of every race, and the homes for sale that once belonged to Americans from every religion ,every walk of life. This time we want to talk about the fact that the real problem is not that someone who doesnt look like you might take your job; its that the corporation you work for will ship it overseas for nothing more than a profit. Some of his famous speeches A more perfect Union A Race Speech. The time has come for universal health care. Race against time-World AIDS day Speech. A real solution for high gas prices. "A World that Stands as One" - Berlin Germany. An honest government, a hopeful future. Energy Independence and safety of our planet.

Political Career
Obama began his political career as an Illinois State Senator, where he served from 1997-2004. Due o his hardball political tactics he became known among Chicago political circles. A Chicago tribune article reported that he was able to get into the Illinois Senate by challenging the veracity of nominating petitions until his competitors could no longer legally be considered candidates and were knocked off the ballot. State legislator: 19972004 Obama was elected to the Illinois Senate in 1996, succeeding State Senator Alice Palmer as Senator from Illinois's 13th District, which then spanned Chicago South Side neighborhoods from Hyde Park-Kenwood south to South Shore and west to Chicago Lawn. Once elected, Obama gained bipartisan support for legislation reforming ethics and health care laws. He sponsored a law increasing tax credits for low-income workers, negotiated welfare reform, and promoted increased subsidies for childcare. In 2001, as co-chairman of the bipartisan Joint Committee on Administrative Rules, Obama supported Republican Governor Ryan's payday loan regulations and predatory mortgage lending regulations aimed at averting home foreclosures. Obama was reelected to the Illinois Senate in 1998, defeating RepublicanYesse Yehudah in the general election, and was reelected again in 2002.In2000, he lost a Democratic primary run for the U.S. House of Representatives to four-term incumbent Bobby Rush by a margin of two to one. In January 2003, Obama became chairman of the Illinois Senate's Health and Human Services Committee when Democrats, after a decade in the minority, regained a majority. He sponsored and led unanimous, bipartisan passage of legislation to monitor racial profiling by requiring police to record the race of drivers they detained and legislation making Illinois the first state to mandate videotaping of homicide interrogations. During his 2004 general election campaign for U.S. Senate, police representatives credited Obama for his active engagement with police organizations in enacting death penalty reforms. Obama resigned from the Illinois Senate in November 2004 following his election to the U.S. Senate.

2004 U.S. Senate campaign In mid-2002, Obama began considering a run for the U.S. Senate; he enlisted political strategist David Axelrod that fall and formally announced his candidacy in January 2003. Decisions by Republican incumbent Peter Fitzgerald and his Democratic predecessor Carol Moseley Braun not to contest the race launched wide-open Democratic and Republican primary contests involving fifteen candidates. Obama's candidacy was boosted by Axelrod's advertising campaign featuring images of the late Chicago Mayor Harold Washington and an endorsement by the daughter of the late Paul Simon, former U.S. Senator for Illinois. In the March 2004 primary election, Obama won an unexpected landslide victory with 53% of the vote in a seven-candidate field, 29% ahead of his nearest Democratic rival. In July 2004, Obama wrote and delivered the keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston, Massachusetts. He spoke about changing the U.S. government's economic and social priorities, while questioning the Bush administration's management of the Iraq War and speaking about obligations to American soldiers. He criticized heavily partisan views of the electorate and asked Americans to find unity, saying, "There is not a liberal America and a conservative America; there's the United States of America." Though it was not televised by the three major broadcast news networks, a combined 9.1 million viewers saw Obama's speech, which was a highlight of the convention and elevated his status as a star in the Democratic Party. Obama's expected opponent in the general election, Republican primary winner Jack Ryan, withdrew from the race in June 2004.Two months later, Alan Keyes accepted the Illinois Republican Party's nomination to replace Ryan. A long-time resident of Maryland, Keyes established legal residency in Illinois with the nomination. In the November 2004 general election, Obama received 70% of the vote to Keyes' 27%, the largest victory margin for a statewide race in Illinois history.

U.S. Senator: 20052008 Obama was sworn in as a senator on January 4, 2005. Obama was the fifth African American Senator in U.S. history and the third to have been popularly elected. He was the only Senate member of the Congressional Black Caucus. CQ Weekly, a nonpartisan publication, characterized him as a "loyal Democrat" based on analysis of all Senate votes in 20052007. The National Journal ranked him as the "most liberal" senator based on an assessment of selected votes during 2007; in 2005 he was ranked sixteenth most liberal, and in 2006 he was ranked tenth. In 2008, Congress.org ranked him as the eleventh most powerful Senator, and the politician was the most popular in the Senate, enjoying 72% approval in Illinois. Obama announced on November 13, 2008 that he would resign his senate seat on November 16, 2008, before the start of the lame-duck session, to focus on his transition period for the presidency. This enabled him to avoid the conflict of dual roles as President-elect and Senator in the lame duck session of Congress, which no sitting member of Congress had faced since Warren Harding. Legislation Obama voted in favor of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and cosponsored the Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act. In September 2006, Obama supported a related bill, the Secure Fence Act. Obama introduced two initiatives bearing his name: LugarObama, which expanded the NunnLugar cooperative threat reduction concept to conventional weapons, and the CoburnObama Transparency Act, which authorized the establishment of USAspending.gov, a web search engine on federal spending. On June 3, 2008, Senator Obama, along with Senators Thomas R. Carper, Tom Coburn, and John McCain, introduced follow-up legislation: Strengthening Transparency and Accountability in Federal Spending Act of 2008.

Obama sponsored legislation that would have required nuclear plant owners to notify state and local authorities of radioactive leaks, but the bill failed to pass in the full Senate after being heavily modified in committee. Obama is not hostile to tort reform and voted for the Class Action Fairness Act of 2005 and the FISA Amendments Act of 2008 which grants immunity from civil liability to telecommunications companies complicit with NSA warrantless wiretapping operations. In December 2006, President Bush signed into law the Democratic Republic of the Congo Relief, Security, and Democracy Promotion Act, marking the first federal legislation to be enacted with Obama as its primary sponsor. In January 2007, Obama and Senator Feingold introduced a corporate jet provision to the Honest Leadership and Open Government Act, which was signed into law in September 2007. Obama also introduced Deceptive Practices and Voter Intimidation Prevention Act, a bill to criminalize deceptive practices in federal elections and the Iraq War DeEscalation Act of 2007,neither of which has been signed into law. Later in 2007, Obama sponsored an amendment to the Defense Authorization Act adding safeguards for personality disorder military discharges This amendment passed the full Senate in the spring of 2008. He sponsored the Iran Sanctions Enabling Act supporting divestment of state pension funds from Iran's oil and gas industry, which has not passed committee, and co-sponsored legislation to reduce risks of nuclear terrorism. Obama also sponsored a Senate amendment to the State Children's Health Insurance Program providing one year of job protection for family members caring for soldiers with combat-related injuries

Visit to India
Barack Obamas three days visit to India came on the heels of an economic recession and a loosing war in Afghanistan. Just before his visit, he felt the full lush of frustration from the American people in the midterm elections on account of a stagnant economy and increasing unemployment. This cfeation of jobs in the united states was his primary objective. American business need market to sell their products and thus were looking at d developing world with great optimism. India being the second fastest growing economy after china is a major consumer of everything from bikes to aircrafts, nuclear power to defence equipment. In order to take advantage of the burgeoning demand from India, on the very first day of Obamas visit, 20 business deals worth a total of $ billion were signed between the two countries. Obama also declared to lift the ban of high-tech and dual-use exports to Indian agenciesIndian Space Research Organisation, Defence Research and Development Organisation, and Bharat Dynamics Limited. Moreover, his administration has supported India's full membership in Nuclear Suppliers Group, Missile Technology Control Regime, the Australian Group and the Wassenaar Arrangement. It is being said that these concessions will help India to develop its space technology and defense industry. All this might seem to be the generosity of the Obama administration towards India, but the reality is different. Apart from eyeing economic gains by the sale of high-tech and dual-use products, the United States also wants to make geopolitical impact in Asia. Worried by the rapid rise of China, the United States wants to create a counterbalance in Asia by allying India with itself. On the last day of his visit, Obama addressed the Indian Parliament. He said many things India wanted to hear, and a few things it didn't. The most important was his vocal support for India getting a permanent seat in the reformed U.N. Security Council (UNSC). Since such a statement would not come without conditions attached, he asked India to play an active role in passing and enforcing sanctions resolutions during its two-year stint as a non-permanent member. By this, he wanted India to change its consistent

stance on Iran. This was also reflected in the joint statement issued by both countries. On Iran, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to diplomacy and discussed the need for India to meet its obligations towards the International Atomic Energy Agency and UNSC. On Pakistan, in line with Indian expectations, Obama said that terrorist safe havens within Pak borders are unacceptable and also called on Pakistan to punish the terrorists behind the Mumbai attacks. This was the most an American president could do notwithstanding the lack of strategic convergence between India and the United States on Pakistan. While for the United States Pakistan is a part of the solution, for India it is the heart of the problem. The United States badly needs Pakistan in its war against al Qaeda and the Taliban in the AfPak region. On the controversial issue of Kashmir, repeating his earlier stance, the U.S. president said Washington couldn't impose a solution and intends to work with both sides to resolve the issue bilaterally. His silence on Kashmir was ensured by the above aircraft and defense deals. This visit was different in the sense that it was a give-and-take event, unlike prior visits by U.S. presidents who sought only to extract from India as much as they could. Obama gave many concessions and assurances to India. Still, there are many issues on which both countries do not share a common view. India, being a sovereign nation, has always followed an independent foreign policy. Our defined principles determine our relations with neighboring countries and the world. As Prime Minister Manmohan Singh rightly said, "We cannot choose our neighbors." We need to learn to live in peace with them without bowing to any external pressure. Indian policymakers should keep in mind that, in the 21st century, America may need India more than India needs America.

Accomplishments

Barack Obamas accomplishments have been done during his 11 years as a senator, where he sponsored bills and got them past through lobbyists. America is now in the throes of the greatest economic depression after the Great Depression of the 20th century. It is troubled by war, terrorists, as well as the loss of face, in fact, the Iraq situation happens to be the Vietnam situation once again, and that is the reason why Barack Obama has his work cut out for him. He needs to work overtime to make up for the half boiled ideas implemented by his predecessor. But Barack Obamas accomplishments as a president have started off on a good start by the shutting down the Guantnamo Bay detention camp and pulling up Wall Street heavies who have managed to give themselves bonuses to the tune of billions of dollars, when America is going the Great Depression two. It would be an added feather in Barack Obamas accomplishments, if he gets them to cough up the sums of money which they have been taking as a bonus, when the rest of America is tightening its belt, and learning how to survive another day. Nevertheless, if you look at the record of Barack Obamas accomplishments during his eleven years as a senator, you are going to be surprised to know why the educated public voted for him, because he got things done, against great odds, and great pressure to bow down by his opponents. In 11 years, he sponsored 800 bills out of which 233 bills were in the public health and health care sector, 128 bills were for public assistance, 112 bills for corrections of crime, 97 bills for economy business and finance and 62 bills for education, are also some of Barack Obamas accomplishments. Another important part of Barack Obamas accomplishments happened to be the protection of community interests in Chicago in regard to landfills. Another of Barack Obamas accomplishments was the winning of playgrounds, services for employment training, school reforms, programs for after-school and other amenities for the public. People still remember one more of Barack Obamas accomplishments, a program for housing for the lower-income group. A bill to amend the Higher Education Act of 1965 to improve higher education sponsored by Barack

Obama as a senator is also one of the most well-known of Barack Obamas accomplishments. In the same manner, because he happens to be very worried about the environment, one of Barack Obamas accomplishments is the bill directing the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to make sure that there are established procedures and guidelines which are going to be necessary for controlling, tracking, and accounting nuclear segments and fuel rods. So now, America can be proud of a president, who knows the meaning of the buck stops here.
