When the Iiquid is overheated in reIation to
saturation temperature , vapour bubbIe are
formed at the certain favourabIe spots caIIed
the nucIeation sites or the active sites ; these
may be surface irreguIaries , air bubbIes and
the particIes of dust these bubbIes grow to
certain size infIuenced by pressure
,temperature and surface tension at the Iiquid
vapour interface .

The bubble growth in the nucleation is greatly
influenced by the nature and conditions of the
surface and surface tension at the solid-liquid
interface. The surface tension signifies wetting
capability of the surface and any contamination of
the surface would affect its wetting capability. Hence
the size and shape of the bubbles is influenced.
And based on different wetting characteristics , the
typical vapour bubbles assume the shapes as
shown in the next picture.
