WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATION DISPUTE RESOLUTION PROCESS

The Dispute Resolution process of the World Trade Organization (WTO) acts as an intermediary body or as a central pillar between those countries who are engaged in trade. The main focus of the WTO Dispute Resolution Process is to regulate the effective and an efficient trade system between countries involved in trade process and if a dispute arises between countries or governments regarding trade then it is up to WTO to resolve such disputes and come to a conclusion. Dispute in such case is referred to such a situation when the parties involved in trade take notice that the other party is not complying with the WTO agreements and are not fulfilling those responsibilities which they agreed upon. Before involving in a trade process, countries or governments who want to get involved in trade process have to sign up with WTO and perform their trade according to the rules and regulations prescribed in the agreement of trade made by the WTO. By signing up or by joining the WTO as member countries, if they believe that their fellow member countries are not acting accordingly to the agreement or are in violation to the agreement then they can use a system to file a complaint against the violating member country by a system known as Multilateral System of Settling Disputes, instead of taking actions by themselves. By going through such procedures allows a member country to remain firm and to abide the agreed upon rules and regulations. This system is monitored and controlled by WTO and consists of a Dispute Settlement Body (DSB), which is responsible for the resolution of such disputes. The Dispute Resolution Process of the WTO consists of the parties involved and a third party which may be involved in a case and DSB panels. Such process comprises of experts and judges who try to resolve the dispute and conclude the matter with the benefit of parties involved without raising any political and misleading scenarios. While DSB oversees this whole process and DSB has the authority to establish panels, review the decisions that are made and to keep a check or surveillance on the parties that have

been accused in the Dispute Resolution Process that whether they are coinciding with the recommendations made to them by WTO.
