Khalifa Industrial Zone

Phase 1 of the Khalifa Industrial Zone area will extend across 137km.2

Strategically located midway between Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, the Khalifa Port and Industrial Zone (KPIZ) will be a mega-scale industrial zone and multi-purpose port with a special economic zone dedicated to industrial, logistics, commercial, educational and residential facilities. This world-class project, developed by Abu Dhabi Ports Company, is propelling economic expansion and diversification for the region. The Khalifa Industrial Zone will be a home base for a range of manufacturing, logistics and industrial activities. ADPC will establish a world-class infrastructure for these industrial activities. In conjunction with the private sector, ADPC will develop real estate and business services to spur economic growth and social development.

KPIZ industry clusters comprise the following sectors: base metals, heavy machinery, vehicle assembly, chemicals, and petrochemicals, building materials, processed foods, light manufacturing, trade & logistics, oil & gas equipment, information & communications technology equipment and alternative energy, among others.

Khalifa Port

Khalifa Port will be a state-of-the-art, efficient gateway for import and export. Ideally situated between two major cities and two major airports, the Khalifa Port will be linked by a nation wide freight rail line, excellent highway systems and roadways and utility distribution networks. The port will receive all ship sizes, including the largest container ships and bulk vessels. Thoroughly extensible, it will be able to accommodate even larger vessel sizes, as they are manufactured. The Khalifa Port will accommodate a wide range of cargo, including containers, break bulk, liquid and dry bulk cargos; it will also feature state-ofthe-art unloading and storage facilities. Mandated along a five stage phased development approach, the Khalifa Port is expected to start early operation by the end of 2010.

Industrial Zones

Khalifa Industrial Zone will be divided into distinct clusters, each providing appropriate infrastructures and services needed to support the activities in the zone. This zone will be tailored to high impact industry such as smelters, concrete production, heavy machinery manufacture, chemical & petrochemical plants, pulp & paper mills and food processing. Located between residential and high impact industry areas, this zone is dedicated to less impactful industries such as light manufacturing, food packaging & processing, glass manufacture and vehicle assembly.

This zone focuses on technological industry such as electrical components, alternative energy, incubator facilities and research facilities.

Commercial Zones

Retail showrooms, office parks, hotels, leisure facilities, shopping, service centres and leisure activities enhance the community for residents, staff and visitors. Two vibrant residential communities provide a dynamic home for people working in the KPIZ region: New Town and Workers City. Both residential districts provide all of the necessary requirements for an enriched life, including educational and recreational facilities, mosques, shopping and emergency resources.

Residential Zones
One highlight of the industrial zone is the presence of the worlds largest single-site aluminium smelter, Emirates Aluminium (EMAL). Already under construction, the smelter will produce a capacity of up to 1.4 tons of aluminium per year. EMAL will deliver collective benefits to both the port and companies operating within the industrial zone.
